Apparently because our little Gil is now a year old (and one week). Friday I took him in for his one year photo shoot at portrait Innovations for his final baby picture. Then on Saturday he turned into a big boy with his first hair cut! I is walking all around furniture and standing up by himself. I am sure it will be no time at all till he just takes off running.

We had a very busy but great summer with to vacations. One to Montana as a family(25 hr drive), we met some of Jonathan's collefe buddies and there wives in Glacure National Park and then went to his friend Jeremy's (who lives in MT). Two weeks later we drove to Tennessee (only 13 hr drive) to stay for an extrended weekend with my family. On the way there and back, we stayed the night with Jonathan's Uncle John and Aunt Pepper. Both were a ton of fun and you can see about 250 of the best of the Montana trip and the Tennessee photos on my facebook page.

We are keeping busy at church also. I am still helping in the nursury. Jonathan switched from teaching the pre K- 2 grade Sunday school to the 3rd-5th grade class which is a lot more prep work. Jonathan is also hoping to be taking a break from sing with the worship team, which he has been doing for the past year and a half.

6 months

<img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; Gil is now 6 month old, which is so hard to believe. He is eating so many things now, cereals, sweet potatoes and corn, green beans, peas, squash, carrots, pears, apples, yogurt (not a fan), and just this weekend we introduced the sippy cup.

The month of march has been full of lots of excitement!

The first weekend in March we were blessed to have all of the Dylhoff's at our house. We had family pictures taken and had a great visit.

My sister Michelle and mom came for a day trip Tuesday since Michelle was home on spring break. It was fun to see them.

The second weekend we went to Chicago to meet up with some of Jonathan's friends from high school. It was a lot of fun and a surprise to see some of them. We wanted to make the most of the time we had so we took off Monday so we didn't have to rush home.

This weekend was a nice relaxing weekend at home with a delightful visit from Uncle John and Aunt Pepper. It was so much fun to finally get to show off Gilbert. Gil got really attatched to Uncle John. It was a lot of fun to see how much fun he had with him, he spend his wake time after they left looking for him.

Next weekend will be another weekend in Dubuque but should be fun too. We have a friend that is getting married and I am going to be taking pictures of them getting ready as well as some fun girl pictures! I am looking forward to taking the fun pictures and not the high pressure ones!

Hope everything is going well with everone, we would love to have you come for a visit!!!

17 weeks

Well it is hard to believe but 17 weeks ago Gilbert was born, Thursday he will turn 4 months old. It is so hard to believe!!! He is getting so big too! He is a fantastic baby. He is on a 2 1/2 -3 hour ruitine, Eat, wake time, sleep. At 5 weeks, he was diagnosed with Thrush which is literally a PAIN!!! Especially for mommy. It had cleared up but was back again last week. At 6 weeks, we started using our bumgenius cloth diapers, but stil we only have 12 we are only able to use them part of the day... But every time we use them we are saving the land fills... He also rolled over for the first time on his 6week b-day :).

Just wanted to put up a quick update.

Album 10/17/09, by Nikki Marquis

I'd like to share my Walgreens Photo Center photos with you. Mommy woke up at 7:00 and thought her stomach hurt so she didn’t want to get up, so she hit snooze, twice. Then it was time to get up cause Charlie would be here soon. Charlie and mommy ate breakfast and waited for Charlie to wake up. Meanwhile mommy was having contractions every 2-3 minutes, but they were only lasting about 10 seconds each. They were getting more intense and mommy could not sit through then. She was up walking around and trying to go to the bathroom every few minutes.
By 11:00, the contractions were still there every few minutes. Mommy called her friend Angie (who has four boys) to ask her how to tell if it was false labor, practice labor, or the real deal. After asking lots of questions she said I should call my midwives and see if they wanted me to come in and get checked. Angie offered to come pick up Charlie and me after she took her Jonathan to preschool. I called and Kathy the other midwife was working in the office (Deb was on call for deliveries). Kathy asked if I could come in at 1:00 to get checked.
I e-mailed Jonathan and told him not to freak out but that I had been having short contractions all morning. I just wanted him to know but not to rush back from the training cause I was doing fine. I told him I was going in at 1:00 to be checked and I would keep him posted. After giving about 45 minutes for him to get the e-mail I tried his cell phone, but only let it ring twice before hanging up so I wouldn’t interrupt training. An hour after my first attempt to call Daddy, mommy e-mailed Charlies parents to let them know what was going on. Since Angie was coming over, we would have a car seat and he would be just fine. Scott called daddy and asked if he was excited yet. Daddy had not gotten the e-mail and saw the missed call as Scott was calling so he did not know what was going on yet. He called and I told him not to worry and I would keep him posted.
Angie arrived around 12:30 and we headed to the doctor. Angie was timing contractions and they were one to two minutes apart. They called Mommy in to the exam room. I weighed 149, I was 26 pounds less than when I found out I was pregnant!!! I waited in the room for Kathy to get back from her lunch pacing around the room because I couldn’t sit down except briefly between contractions. Kathy finally came in and checked me. I was dilated to between 2 and 3 centimeters. She told mommy they could admit us to the hospital or we could go home to labor as long as we wanted unless my water broke then I would need to come in right away. Mommy was going home!!! We called to let daddy know what was going on and asked him to call when the group got back to Dubuque before he took off on the motorcycle so we could tell him if we wanted him to meet us at home or at the hospital.
Once home Charlie went back down for his nap. Angie was going to stay with mommy till daddy made it back. She was franticly looking for things to do to keep herself occupied between timing contractions. Mommy was just walking around the house. Trying to go to the bathroom, and packing some stuff for daddy for the hospital.
Charlie’s mom came and picked him up a little early so mommy did not have to worry about taking care of him too even though I told her not to worry about it that we were fine. (Mommy found out later daddy called and asked them to pick him up.)
Everything was continuing about the same. Mommy just kept breathing through the contractions. Angie was excited enough for both of us. Mommy ended up throwing up, getting shaking, and contractions were starting to last longer. So Angie said we needed to find out where Daddy was now and she called him. He was around Maquoketa so about 45 minutes away. Angie told him to go ahead and plan on meeting us at the hospital; because, she knew mommy was in active labor and she did not want to have to deliver you at home or in the car. So we started packing up.
We arrived at the hospital at 4:00. They were just wheeling me upstairs when Daddy called to say he was at the motor cycle in Dubuque and would be there soon. They checked me again and I was dilated to 4 almost 5 centimeters this time!!! The nurse said it is hardest for first time moms to get past a 4 and I was there. They were just finishing admitting mommy when daddy walked in the room. Mommy had to be on a monitor for 20 minutes every hour to monitor your heart rate and her contractions. Once we finished monitoring the first time mommy got a dose of antibiotics because she was a carrier of strep. Once that was finished, Mommy and Daddy went for a walk around the halls. We were laboring in several different positions. Then they filled up the birthing tub for mommy to labor in. While mommy was in the tub, around 7:00, Deb arrived and checked me again. This time we were between 6 and 7 centimeters! So Deb said she would stay there down the hall in the doctor’s room. We got out of the tub and walked again before getting hooked up to the monitor for another 20 minutes. The nurse was very nice and asked us all the time if she could get us anything. Daddy was fantastic too, he never left my side except to get more ice. He sat and rubbed my feet, breathed with me and encouraged me with all kinds of praise! He was so excited to meet you.
After the next monitoring, the nurse asked if there was anything she could get for us. Mommy said no but I have a question. Is it normal for me to feel like with every contraction I’m either going to throw up of poop the bed. She said yes and that she was going to go get Deb! Deb came down and rechecked us. Up to 8 centimeters this time, so Deb asked if mommy wanted her to break her water to speed things up. Mommy said sure. We continued to labor on the bed for a while and they warmed up the birthing tub to get it ready for your water birth. Daddy was sitting in from of mommy rubbing her arms and Deb was lightly rubbing her back. Then we moved into the tub. The whole time we were in the tub mommy was hooked up to the monitor mainly to monitor you. Deb sat in the room around the corning leaving daddy and mommy to enjoy this time together. Shortly after getting in the tub, Mommy ask how long she needed to wait till she started to push. Deb said as soon as I felt like pushing and they started getting ready.
Daddy was helping support mommy during each contraction and push so that she could brace herself on him or the foot of the giant tub. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without him. Between each contraction mommy want back to the front of the tub and just relaxed. Mommy had just mastered pushing when Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Becca, and Great Grandpa Marquis arrived in the waiting room. We were getting lots of encouragement from daddy and Deb. Daddy was so excited when he could start to see your head! After a while of pushing they said your head was partially out and with one of these pushes you would just slip right out. Deb told me I could feel your head if I wanted to. I touched it and she said I could feel/push on it if I wanted to, but I told her I didn’t want to push you back in, everyone laughed (except me I had done a lot of work to get that far). Just before 11:00 mommy was asking how much longer. Your head was about half way out.
Shortly after 11:00, mommy had just finished a contraction and was relaxing and mommy thinks God said go to sleep so I wouldn’t know what was going on so I would remain calm. Because the next thing I remember was Deb calmly saying “ok time to get out of the tub. Stand up with your legs spread apart and crawl up on the edge of the tub onto the bed. You can stay in that position and push if you want to. Just a few more pushes.” I heard Jonathan say, “please Lord”. My head was spinning wondering what I had done wrong why did I have to get out of the tub, did I fall asleep? They were trying to get oxygen on me while I was trying to push. Had I past out and that was why I felt like I had fallen asleep. Deb had me roll onto my back and give one final push. The baby was out. But as I sat there and listened I slowly figured out what had happened. The cord was rapped around your neck twice which had caused your heart rate to start to drop. Deb struggled to get the cord off and was about to cut it off your neck when it slipped off. The nurse rapped a blanket around you, placed you on my chest, and moved the oxygen from me to you. Daddy was right next to me and looking at you and then at me. I looked up at your daddy and I knew we were thinking the exact same thing. I was speechless. Finally daddy couldn’t wait any more and ripped the blanket off and said, It’s a BOY!!! All the excitement and they forgot to tell us. Daddy cut your umbilical cord. Once the cord was off everything settled down and we had a beautiful healthy baby. Mommy held you for a while gave you to your proud daddy, then daddy gave you back so he could tell Grandma, Grandpa, Becca, and Great Grandpa our baby boy was here. After you were weighed, foot printed and everything else your first visitors came in to meet you. You were so alert! Those big bright eyes were soaking in everything. Daddy was so proud of us both and bragged about how we did it with out any pain drugs!

Baby Dylhoff is born!

Hello friends and family!

Gilbert Asher Dylhoff was born on Monday Sept 21, 2009 at 11:12 PM. We all went in to the appointment with the mid wife on Friday morning. Jonathan had several questions to ask the mid wife about shots and tests in the hospital. So I have lost 23 pounds, at the last appointment I had finally gained 2 pounds. But this time I lost another pound, but I was also wearing jeans and tennies, so I probably lost those 2 extra pounds.... They keep telling me I'll start gaining here. I have not been sick and feel just fine. So they just want me to make sure I am getting 5 servings of protien a day.

25 weeks

Well we are almost to week 26. I have my next appointment in 2 1/2 weeks,, then we start going in every other week. Baby is getting bigger and moving around. We just got home from our "vacation". We spent an extended weekend in St. Louis with Jonathan's college friend Jeremy Anderson and his wife. We had a really good time. We went to the Arch and the City Museum for our Big vacation events. We had a great time.

Twenty week ultrasound!!!! I do not know when it became normal to do 2 but it is fun too. Week 12 was by far the worst week so far. At my 12 weeks appointment I had lost 16 pounds, 6 weeks since my last appointment. I think it is just due to eating healthier and smaller portions though. After the appointment though I was unable to keep food down for the next 4 days. So that Monday I went in to the doctor and got nausia medicine, but not till after they tried to get me to get admitted to the hospital for IV fluids. Thankfully though I was able to try the meds first and was able to keep food down. Now we are mostly through the morning sickness stage!!!! :)
This weekend was city wide garage sales so I have a great time going around looking for baby stuff!!! And maternity clothes, which are beginning to be more and more necessary every week.
Here are our ultra sound pictures.

Oh baby Oh Baby

Greeting to all, it has definately been a long time but hopefully with the latest news we will have an excuse to keep this updated!!! It's been a long time (like never before) but God has been so good to me! I am getting to know a beautiful lady, that loves Christ, named Nicole. We have been a hanging out and chatting quite a bit. We met in small group at Harvest Bible Chapel. So you know the progress, she went home (to Chicago) to meet my folks. Quite a gal! I hope you all are doing well. Here's a pic for all you folks that happen to be interested.

Clem and Sherm

So Thanksgiving this year was a little bit unusual. This year was the first for LaPlata Peak in central CO. LaPlata is one of the legendary 14'ers that the state is known for. It was quite an enjoyable climb. We had 10 guys in total coming from all over the U.S. Some were already graduates of LetU and some are still trying to graduate.
------------------------------
We found some snow and had to have a good time. At first it looked like the slope was too great, but I found out that it was just fun to slide around in the snow.

------------------------------
We also found a JEEP Commander laying around (rented one, don't worry for those of you who know my history...) and had to test it out. It got a little muddy and maybe the bolts are a little looser now. I got this nifty grocery carrier in Deutschland. The Grocery Baggers look at me strangely now. I think it is because their name now has to be Grocery Boxer whenever I arrive. Anyways, my small part to help reduce waste.
It made me think though how each grocery item gets its little place in the box. I started to wish that the pieces in my life would fit together nicely like the groceries did. Then I realized that the pieces ARE fitting together just exactly like God has them planned. I might not know what in the world the pieces are or know how they are fitting toghether but that's ok. So as you place each item in your grocery box, maybe you could remember how God is placing pieces of your life together in ways you and I could never imagine.

"Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey."
Trust and Obey, Sammis

Vacation Time!

Vacation!
I took a couple of weeks off of work this summer. I had a super fun time in Europe visiting good friends and spending time with my family.
The first week was spent in Germany at Black Forest Academy. I got to see the Tebbe's and the Grubb's who are serving faithfully to educate the youth at BFA. The new buildings on campus are looking great. I think the students will enjoy the new facilities.

The second week was spent with my family on the canals in the Alsace region of France. The canals were very beautiful and relaxing. We had fun navigating the boat.
The happy girl in pic is my niece enjoying the German landscape!

I am now back in Davenport and getting back into the swing of things (work).

Bogging around

Hi there,
My next update relates back to work. Sometimes it is just a rough day at the office. Like when I was forced to drive around our largest dump truck, the 400D, for about 2 hours. It has a 40 ton capacity and articulates in the center. That means that the front wheels do not turn. Instead, the whole front section of the machine turns in relation to the rear.
The course was nice and muddy. Some of the mud sections were at least two feet deep in mud. The 400D performed quite well and went right through them. I wish I had pics of the course, but that stuff can't be shared. Sorry!
Yeah, that's right, I was wearing my safety goggles. Don't want any of that mud getting in my eyes. Come to think of it, I should have taken my lab coat...So, life is going fairly well. It was the 12 Hours of Sugar Creek and was very wet and muddy. We did the 6 hour team event. The bike of choice was the only mountain bike that I have setup right now. It is a Trek Fuel 100 frame that I have mostly Shimano XT components on. I built up the bike just before the race and it performed fairly well. The only glitch was a chain break about 5.5 hours into the race. It is somewhat expected to have a drivetrain failure with fist-sized pieces of mud on the derailers. The guy in the picture is my brother coming in to trade off laps. It was the third time that 3B had taken a group of guys to the peak near Boulder, CO. The group consisted of Jeremy Anderson, Scott Henry, Michael Glucksman, Chuck Trowbridge, Weston Waterson, William Yeoman, and Jonathan Dylhoff. Maybe it was just the perfect mix of guys or possibly the fact that we went while the summer still gave us nice hiking weather. Two previous attempts saw extremely poor weather. This helped create the lore that brought us back to conquer it. I am enjoying the construction equipment environment. I mostly do structural design changes in 4WD Loaders, Dump Trucks, and Motor Graders.
Davenport is an interesting city to live in. I am encouraged by their commitment to having the written Word be their base.

Initial Blog

Hello,
This is my first posting in my blog site.
